Student gathered around a campfire

Cranberry Portage Elementary Students Learn Winter Camping Skills in Land-Based Learning Experience

Over the course of two days, students from grades 7 and 8 at Cranberry Portage Elementary participated in an array of activities centered around winter camping. They learned the art of setting up prospector tents, an essential skill for winter survival and comfort on the Land. Students also engaged with sustainable harvesting practices, underscoring the importance of building a healthy relationship with the Land and preserving our natural environment. Of course, no camping experience would be complete without tea boiling and bannock making over the fire. The two days culminated with an ice fishing adventure at Twin Lakes with some beautiful winter weather. These activities not only taught practical skills but also nurtured a sense of belonging and community among students.
