Honouring Cynthia Nepinak

The Frontier Family and community of Minegoziibe Anishinabe Pine Creek First Nation acknowledge the unexpected passing of Cynthia Nepinak, Principal of Minegoziibe Anishinabe School.

After more than 30 years at Frontier School Division, Cynthia has been an integral part of our Frontier Family.  Starting as an educational assistant and PENT student, Cynthia then became a classroom teacher and then later moved on to administrative leadership. When Pine Creek First Nation entered into an education agreement with Frontier School Division in 2004, Cynthia was already the principal and has made an impact in her school and community.  Her life-long learning and commitment to the development of her school community will be missed.

Cynthia was passionate about her culture and language. Anyone who knew Cynthia knows this to be true. She worked relentlessly with students, the school staff and community to promote this. In the last number of years she was particularly proud of what was happening in both cultural and land-based education.

The moment anyone walked into the school you knew that you were not a guest, but rather part of their family. Cynthia could often be heard telling students she loved them: according to her, if they did not hear that from anyone else she knew that at the very least they heard it from her.

We honour and respect the memory of Cynthia throughout all our schools and communities in Frontier. We will keep Cynthia, her family, current and countless former students and colleagues in our thoughts and prayers.
