Honouring the Contributions of Our First Nations Veterans

While negotiating the numbered Treaties, government officials assured First Nations communities they would not have to fight for Canada. However, many Indigenous men and women volunteered for service during the First World War anyway. To learn more about the contributions of First Nations veterans and their understanding of treaty obligations, see Honouring First Nations Veterans and the First World War, 1914-1918 by the Treaty Relations Commission of Manitoba.

Leading to National Indigenous Veterans Day on November 8th, staff and students across the Division have engaged in activities to learn about and honour the contributions and sacrifices of Indigenous veterans and currently serving Indigenous members of the Canadian Armed Forces.
