Area 4 Hosts Area-Wide Professional Development Day

Frontier School Division’s Area 4 proudly hosted its annual Area-wide Professional Development Day offering educators an enriching opportunity to deepen their understanding of Indigenous perspectives and practices in education.

The event held on May 3, 2024 brought together nearly 100 staff from across Area 4 to engage in a diverse range of sessions aimed at integrating Indigenous knowledge and teachings into their curriculum.

Through immersive experiences and hands-on activities, educators delved into various aspects of Indigenous Land-Based Education, nurturing a deeper connection to the land, language, wellness, and culture.

Sessions throughout the day focused on Indigenous crafting, water stewardship, plant medicines, and the exploration of the Indigenous Peoples Atlas of Canada.

“This event reflects our commitment to honoring Indigenous knowledge and practices while advancing culturally responsive teaching practices" said Darren Kinden, Superintendent of Area 4.

Ekosani to the amazing PD planning team for all their work throughout the day, making sure everyone was fully fueled on snacks and hot coffee!
